Dr. Thomas Herberger, DDS
I was born and raised in Elyria, Ohio. After finishing my pre-dental training at the University of Kentucky, I received a dental degree (DDS) at Ohio State University. I completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where I earned my class’s highest award for clinical research.
In January of 1995, I was accepted into the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, a highly regarded scientific and research oriented-society whose members are admitted by invitation only based on testing and their contribution of original research in orthodontics. In January 2010, I resigned from the Angle society to focus on my practice and teaching at Case Western Reserve’s Graduate Orthodontic program.
My father founded our orthodontic practice in 1956. In June of 1989, I joined and purchased the family business. My father and I worked together until his death in 1995. We have always believed in treating each and every person as an individual and meeting their unique needs.
When I’m not helping patients, I enjoy bike riding (I rode my bike across the United States in the summer of 1979), computers, community service and scuba diving. I also help out for 2.5 years at the new Cleveland Aquarium as a diver. I’m a member of the Lorain County Dental Society and the Cleveland Society of Orthodontists, and previously served on their boards. I currently teach future orthodontists at Case Western Reserve University in the orthodontic specialty clinic.
Melissa Giar, Scheduling Manager
Being at the front desk I greet and talk to all the patients who come into our office. I schedule all of our patients’ appointments and do my best to schedule convenient times as I know how busy and hectic our lives can be, especially with children and their schedules.
I also go over the financial arrangements when a patient is ready to begin treatment. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have during the course of treatment. If, however, I don’t have the answer, I will be happy to direct you to our office manager, Joanie.
I began working in the dental field in 1995 as a dental assistant. I’ve continued to work in and out of the field for twenty plus years while raising two daughters with my husband of 32 years. When I’m not at the office I’m usually at the gym, spending time with my grandchildren, friends and family and having as much fun as I can.
